Modi, Big B, SRK lose lakhs of followers after Twitter crackdown

Prime Minister Modi, according to report, lost 2, 84,746 followers and currently has 43.1 million followers

Mumbai: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s extended family on Twitter dropped by over 424,000, while Shah Rukh Khan’s followers depleted by over 362,141 and Salman Khan lost 340,884 followers, among other film celebrities as a result of the ‘sanitisation’ of the micro-blogging platform.

Prime Minister Modi, according to report, lost 2, 84,746 followers and currently has 43.1 million followers.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump lost about 100,000 of his 53.4 million followers and former President Barack Obama lost about 400,000 followers.

In a major crackdown conducted today, Twitter has lashed out all the bots and fake followers who have been misusing Twitter so far. Amitabh Bachchan has, in fact, faced the biggest hit by losing out on the maximum number of followers.

Shah Rukh Khan happens to retain his top spot as the ‘Most Followed Bollywood Actor’ on Twitter right now.

Twitter followers on a daily basis, had a tab on the count and said Aamir Khan lost 316,900-plus followers, while Priyanka Chopra lost 354,830 followers and Deepika Padukone lost 288,298.

The micro-blogging platform was yet to come up with an official statement on this.

Twitter earlier this week announced it will remove locked accounts — which are disabled owing to suspicious activity — from follower counts across profiles globally. The locked accounts are different from spam or bots and in most cases, these accounts were created by real people.

Other politicians who lost the followers are External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, Trinamool Congress leader and Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani.

Divya, who currently has a following of 493,000 fans on the micro-blogging website, tweeted on Thursday night: “Aiyyo, what happened Twitter… The sudden drop of thousands of followers in one hour!” Divya tweeted.

Losing almost 130000 followers on @Twitter had its initial side effects. Panic, memory loss, disbelief, anxiety, questioning my eyesight etc. Even tho I have explained patiently that it is part of cleaning up policy. But I felt जैसे उन्होंने मुझे अपनी जायदाद से बेदख़ल कर दिया। Anupam Kher tweeted.
