The number of people following the prime minister on Instagram has reached 30 million. The popularity of Prime Minister Modi has beaten even that of US President Donald Trump and former US President Barack Obama in terms of Instagram followers.

The number of followers of Donald Trump on Instagram is 1.09 million while the number of followers of Barack Obama is 2.48 million. The number of followers of Prime Minister Modi on Instagram shows his popularity and involvement with the youth.

Prime Minister Modi is an active social media user. The number of followers of Modi on social site Twitter runs in crores, too. The prime minister has 5.7 crore followers on Twitter. He has 44 million followers on Facebook.

As of now, the latest images of Modi on Instagram are of his walk on a beach of Tamil Nadu where he also did ‘plogging’ (picking things while jogging). The prime minister did this ostensibly to convey the message of Swachh Bharat. However, in light of his recent appeal to ban single-use plastic, the Congress pointed out that he was collecting garbage from the beach in a plastic bag.

Prime Minister Modi utilised the opportunity thrown up by the two-day (11-12 October) visit of President of China Xi Jinping by reaching out to the Tamil people, appearing in the local attire and tweeting in Tamil about the great culture and hospitality of the people of the state.
