Rani Mukerji-starrer Mardaani 2, released on 13 December, based on the rising rate of juvenile crimes in the country, has earned revenue of around ₹ 18.15 crore in the first weekend.
Rani Mukerji visited Shirdi on Monday for blessings of Sai Baba for the success of her film. The temple administration presented her with a statue of Baba.
In the year 2018, Rani had made her comeback in Bollywood films a long time after her marriage and a baby with the film Hichki. It earned around ₹ 15.25 crore in the opening weekend. Mardaani 2 has earned more than Hichki.
Mardaani 2‘s opening day domestic collection was ₹ 3.80 crore. On the second day, the film collected ₹ 6.55 crore. On the third day, the film collected ₹ 7.80 crore, taking the total opening weekend collection to ₹ 18.15 crore.
Mardaani 2 is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language action thriller directed by Gopi Puthran and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. It is a sequel to the 2014 film Mardaani, featuring Rani Mukerji who is reprising her role of SP Shivani Shivaji Roy.
Inspired by true rape and murder incidents, the story follows Shivani who goes up against a 21-year-old rapist (played by Vishal Jethwa). She hunts down the young and merciless man who goes on raping and murdering women. Yash Raj Films had announced Mardaani 2 in December 2018. The principal photography of the film began on 27 March 2019.
Mardaani, released on 22 August 2014, was directed by Pradeep Sarkar and produced by Aditya Chopra. The original starred Rani Mukerji with Jisshu Sengupta, Tahir Raj Bhasin and Saanand Verma in supporting roles. The narrative revolved around Shivani Shivaji Roy, a policewoman whose interest in the case of a kidnapped teenage girl led her to uncover secrets of human trafficking by the mafia.
