A man from Uttar Pradesh has filed an FIR against his wife and in-laws for allegedly celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the T20 World Cup match held on 24 October.
Complainant Ishan Miya, a resident of Azim Nagar of Rampur has alleged that his wife Rabia Shamsi and her family burst crackers and posted WhatsApp status celebrating Pakistan’s victory in the T20 World Cup match.
“An FIR has been registered after a case of making fun of the Indian cricket team came to our notice on the basis of a complaint made by a man,” said Ankit Mittal, Superintendent of Police.
FIR filed under Section 153-A, Section 67
The FIR has been filed in Ganj Police Station of Rampur district under Section 153-A of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.
Celebrations over Pakistan’s victory were also reported from Agra and Jammu & Kashmir.
The cases were filed after a few videos went viral on social media claiming that people in Kashmir celebrated Pakistan’s win and raised slogans after the match.
In Agra, three Kashmiri students studying engineering were arrested.

The arrested students have been identified as Arshad Yusuf, Inayat Altaf Sheikh and Shaukat Ahmed Ganai
Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti came out in support of the students demanding their immediate release.
“Crackdown on Kashmiri students both within J&K & outside is reprehensible. Situation in J&K after two years of suppression should’ve been an eye opener for GOI & lead to course correction. BJP’s pseudo patriotism disregards the idea of India. Release these students immediately,” she had tweeted.
The PDP will provide legal assistance to all persons booked under the UAPA.
