Kolkata/New Delhi: Reports have emerged from Bengali language media that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had snubbed a woman who had lost her child while attending the public meeting of the Trinamool head. The incident happened in Amdanga.
At the meeting, as Banerjee spoke, suddenly a section of the crowd appeared distracted. A woman had lost her child in the commotion.
Mamata tried to calm the distraught mother first, trying to address the woman separately while continuing to use the microphone. But it did not work.
Mamta then took the microphone in her hand, walked to the edge of the dais and said, “Your child is missing, all right! He can be found, just sit down. Do not disturb the meeting, please!”
For several minutes thereafter, the chief minister appeared disturbed. Continuing on the mike, Mamata first said, “Register the case with the police. I am making an announcement on the loudspeaker.”
Refusing to let the matter come in the way of her programme, the chief minister then turned towards Trinamool leaders and workers. She said, “No, I will not continue with the meeting. I am no longer in the mood for it.”
Then Mamata urged the workers of the party, “Go, take a look! The meeting is getting disturbed. Go find the missing child.”
In a while, the child was found. Banerjee then resumed her speech, firing salvos at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.
Few are ready to be lenient to the Trinamool chief who, after all, stopped her political address mid-way and asked her party workers to look for the child and resumed the public meeting only after the child was found.
