Mamata tells Sonia who the boss is

Mamata, in her address, took pains to explain how the Trinamool Congress was not an anti-Hindu party as was made out to be by BJP but a party that promoted communal harmony

Sonia and Rahul Gandhi may fancy the Indian National Congress’s chances as the prime challenger to the BJP in all elections leading up to the Lok Sabha poll of 2024, not all opposition leaders are impressed by their pipedream. The mother- duo certainly cannot count on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, which the head of the Trinamool Congress is making clear time and again.

Mamata Banerjee took a dig at Indian National Congress (INC) party, accusing it of behaving like a sluggish “zamindaar”, while doing nothing to take on BJP. She said, “I do not want to speak against Congress. If Congress thinks of working to defeat BJP, we have no objection. We have formed an alliance in Goa along with MGP. This is the alternative. You want to join, do that. Just because you are not doing it, no one else will do it, this is not right.”

Mamata Banerjee otherwise came across as awkward in Goa.

Khell zatlo,” the Trinamool boss fumbled while pronouncing the Konkani words for ‘khela hobe‘, but she more than made up for it by tossing a into the boisterous audience, who lapped up all of Banerjee’s theatrics on the stage and cheered.

As the lone NCP MLA in Goa assembly, Churchill Alemao, and his Valanka were inducted into Trinamool Congress, the largely attended public function held on Dando Grounds here was high on optics-footballs on the stage, a cantar (Konkani song) eulogising Banerjee and Alemao, and the thousands of Alemao supporters waving the Trinamool Congress flag at Banerjee’s prompt.

“We will win the election,” Banerjee said. “Please accept us like your family.”

The Alemao father- duo, who run a club Churchill Brothers, was welcomed into the party by Trinamool Congress vice-president Luizinho Faleiro in the presence of Banerjee and other functionaries. Earlier in the day, Alemao met with speaker Rajesh Patnekar and submitted a proposal to merge the legislative group of NCP, of which he is the sole member, with Trinamool Congress. In his address at Dando Grounds, Alemao said: “Only Mamata Didi has it in her to become the prime minister. If she becomes the prime minister, she will throw BJP out.”
