Mumbai: In the latest development in the probe into actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death by suicide, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has assured all that director Karan Johar’s manager has been summoned and even filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt will be called in by the Mumbai police in the coming week.
In a statement to reports, Deshmukh said, “In 1-2 days Mahesh Bhatt’s statement will be taken. Then under CrPC Kangana Ranaut has also been summoned. Whoever is needed we will summon.”
When asked about the police calling in director Karan Johar for questioning, he said, “Karan Johar’s manager has been summoned, and if needed we’ll summon Karan Johar as well.”
A day after Sushant’s suicide, Kangana had released a two-minute video speaking highly of the deceased actor and accusing certain sections of the film industry for not acknowledging the his talent. She had also claimed that some of the last social media posts by the actor made it evident that he was struggling to survive in the industry.
According to the police, statements of 39 people, including film critic Rajeev Masand, director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and filmmaker Aditya Chopra have been recorded in the investigation so far. Sushant was found dead in his Mumbai residence on 14 June.
He also went on to reveal that the police are continuing the investigation from a business angle. He said, “Is there a coterie that prevents outsiders from coming to Bollywood? This we’ll probe from a business angle.”
Kangana had also claimed that some of the last social media posts by the actor made it evident that he was struggling to survive in the industry.
Sushant Singh Rajput debuted in the 2013 film Kai Po Che and went on to do several films, including PK, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath, Sonchiriya and Chhichhore – one of his last films that was widely appreciated.
The actor’s death had caused a huge uproar on social media as people called out nepotism in Bollywood.
