Madrassah teacher promises former classmate marriage, forces her to abort

The suspect undertook training in Islamic theology to turn a teacher at the madrassah; he used to be a classmate of the victim earlier


A madrassah teacher in District Bareilly of Uttar Pradesh has been accused of raping a student. He had allegedly promised to marry the victim but later when she conceived his child, he made her abort the foetus. The suspect is a cleric.

According to a complaint filed by the victim, she enrolled in the madrassah four years ago. The suspect used to be a fellow at a regular school, but he later moved to the madrassah after undergoing training in Islamic theology.

The woman alleged that they fell in love, Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said. She, however, claimed that the suspect repeatedly raped her on the pretext of marriage and forced her to undergo an abortion.

“Subsequently, when the woman went to the house of the youth, she was threatened and asked to leave the place,” the officer said.

Sajwan said the police had registered a case against the teacher on 9 October.

The woman hails from Bahedi of Bareilly. The madrassah is located in the Sheeshgarh police station area. The classmate-turned-cleric is Maulvi Ubaysh Hafiz.

After some time, when the girl got pregnant, the cleric forced her to get an abortion. When the victim went to the maulvi‘s house accompanied by her family members, the cleric threatened to kill her.

Reporters spoke to the SHO of the Sheeshgarh police station who said that on the complaint of the victim, they registered a case against the suspect under Sections 356, 376, 313, 504 and 506.

The suspect is absconding since the registration of the case. Police are on his pursuit.

Meanwhile, Mufti Musharraf, who was found of having unnatural sex with a minor boy 6 years ago in District Tumakuru of Karnataka, was sentenced to 11 years in jail by a special court in Bengaluru. Musharraf, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was a teacher in a madrassah near Amalapur in Tumakuru. On 17 April 2015, he had raped a minor child in a madrassah. The incident came to the fore when the minor’s mother went to meet him in the madrassah. The 13-year-old then told his mother about Musharraf’s handiwork and asked to take him back from the madrassah.
