Love and Thunder does not have ‘fat Thor’: Fans disappointed

A new teaser trailer of Love and Thunder shows Thor sprinting through a forest and exercising with chains, before reemerging as his previously buff self

Thor fans are crest-fallen after coming to know that Marvel superhero Thor has regained his past athletic shape in the upcoming instalment, and Thunder. A teaser trailer for the latest film in the franchise showed Thor (Chris Hemsworth) working out. This follows the appearance of the Norse god with put-on weight in Avengers: Endgame, following a depressive episode.

The new teaser trailer for and Thunder shows Thor sprinting through a forest and exercising with chains, before reemerging as his previously buff self. Some fans were disappointed to see Thor had lost the excess weight in the latest instalment.

“If Marvel had any guts they’d let Thor stay fat,” film critic Chris Evangelista tweeted shortly after the trailer premiered. “So what”s the problem with fat Thor?” yet one more fan of the franchise asked on Twitter.

“It would have been nice if we got to keep fat Thor for a while. Because it would have been nice to see him learn to his and find it valid and worthy,” wrote another Thor fan.

One more chimed in: “I would have used Fat Thor for the Endgame picture” while someone else called the decision a “humiliation”.

“Bring back fat Thor,” demanded one fan, while another complained that they were going to “workout montage” the character.

In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment in October 2019, and Thunder director Taika Waititi admitted he didn’t know how to address Thor’s weight gain.

“This is an ongoing debate that we’re still having at Marvel. “Cause we”re trying to figure out how long — how many months or years — this is after Endgame, at what point does this take place?” he said at the time.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Variety, Chris, 38, who wore a 40 kg silicone prosthetic fat suit for the role, said he “enjoyed” playing a heavier Thor in Endgame. “I that version of Thor. There’s a vulnerability to that character and to that version that I think we hadn’t seen before,” he explained.

“He was going through some hard times, and that’s his physical expression of that. I think he embodied that. The first time I read the script, I loved the fact that he went, “This is who I am, this is how I’m feeling, this is what I’m doing. I think it’s fantastic.”
