Lata Mangeshkar treated for breathlessness, discharged

The legendary singer is reportedly suffering from viral fever, pneumonia, left ventricular failure and breathless but is out of danger as of now

Bollywood veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar has been admitted to hospital due to ill health. She was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after complaining of breathlessness. At the time of drafting this report, she was still inside the intensive care unit.

Senior medical adviser at the hospital, physician and intensivist Dr Farokh E Udwadia is treating Lata Mangeshkar. A source reported that she is suffering also from pneumonia and left ventricular failure.

Lata Mangeshkar is receiving medical treatment for viral fever and difficulty in breathing. This information was received from her family.

Some relatives of Lata Mangeshkar said she was afflicted with viral fever, after which she was admitted to the hospital.

The legendary singer is quite active on social media, especially Twitter. Before getting admitted to hospital, her last tweet was about an upcoming film featuring Padmini Kolhapure, who happens to be her niece. She congratulated Kolhapure on Twitter for her role in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film Panipat.

Lata Mangeshkar turned 90 on 28 September.

Breach Candy Hospital

Lata was brought to the Breach Candy Hospital at around 2 AM on Monday after she complained of chest congestion. “She was brought to the hospital at about 2 am. She is critical and in ICU,” a source in the hospital said. Her family has confirmed the news, adding that she is on her way to recovery.

A hospital representative said, “She was down with a little bit of chest viral infection. She is fine. She is definitely better since last night. And she will be absolutely fine in a matter of three or four days.”

Lata has lent her voice to over 1,000 songs in Hindi alone. She was awarded Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in the country, in 2001. She has so far received the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest award to a film personality, and three national awards for playback singing.

Information that the singer has been discharged from the hospital has just been received.
