The health condition of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, 90, remains fragile on the second day after she showed signs of improvement and the doctors discharged her yesterday. She had to be admitted in the ICU again on Tuesday.
Lata was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai complaining of breathing problem in the early hours of Monday. Her condition remains worrisome. She is reacting slowly to the drugs being administered to her. “She has had infections in the lungs and has also been reported to have pneumonia,” said a source in the hospital. Dr Pratit Samdani is monitoring her situation.
Dr Samdani said, “She has pneumonia. The left ventricle (of her heart) has failed. Her condition still remains serious. However, there has been some improvement of late. The left ventricle gives the maximum oxygen to the heart. It is very important for the body to function in a normal and healthy way.”
