Virat Kohli was injured today just before the first T20 match in Guwahati against Sri Lanka. A day before the first limited-overs cricket match, the Indian captain was hit by a ball in the little finger of his left hand while taking a catch. This happened during the first part of the practice session of the Indian team.
Seeing the injury to Kohli, team physiotherapist Nitin Patel treated him immediately. Nitin applied magic spray to him but that did not relieve the captain of the pain. The seriousness of Virat’s injury is not known as of now. However, he was seen smiling during the treatment.
Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja could not appear for this practice session. Jadeja reached Guwahati on Thursday. After a gap of 22 months, the India and Sri Lanka teams are playing their first T20 match against each other.
India had defeated the West Indies 2–1 in their last T20 series while Sri Lanka lost 0–3 to Australia in the three-match T20 series. It will be very difficult for Sri Lanka to win this series in India as they are continuously losing in the bilateral series with the hosts.
It has been 12 years since Virat Kohli made his debut in cricket. Since then, Sri Lanka have lost 16 games in a row. However, Sri Lanka did defeat India in the T20 World Cup final in 2014.
Sri Lanka’s record in T20 matches against India is quite poor. Kohli has a great record against Sri Lanka in batting. He has played four matches against this team so far in which he has scored at an average of over 94. Kohli had scored half-centuries in these four matches. However, he has not been able to score a century against this team in an international T20 match so far.
The first T20 match of the three-match series between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Guwahati. Both teams will face face-to-face at Barsapara Stadium on Sunday, 5 January. The second T20 will be played in Indore and the third match will be played in Pune.
India are starting the new year with the T20 series against Sri Lanka, which are part of the preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in Australia.
