The first Cabinet expansion of the 14th Assembly of Haryana took place here on Thursday. Dushyant Chautala, an MLA from Uchana Kalan and JJP chief, is the youngest minister in the Cabinet. He is 31-year old. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Dushyant Chautala had been sworn in on the first day of the Haryana government formation.

Age-wise in the Haryana Cabinet, Dushyant is followed by Sandeep Singh, a 33-year-old former hockey player. Ranjit Singh, son of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal, who won as an independent from Nian, is the oldest minister aged 73 years. Ranjit Singh is also a brother of Dushyant’s grandfather Omprakash Chautala.

Among the 10 ministers who were sworn in today, six are Cabinet-rank ministers and the rest are ministers of state with independent charge.

While the swearing-in ceremony does not include spelling out of portfolios, sources said Chief Minister Khattar will keep finance and industry with the BJP.

With this expansion, the strength of the Haryana Council of Ministers has become 12. Two more ministers can be made in the 90-seat Assembly. The BJP, which won 40 seats in the Assembly election, formed the government with the support of JJP (10 seats) and Independents (7).
