Curiously, Adarsh Shastri's allegation against Arvind Kejriwal is near-identical to that of Yoganand Shastri against Subhash Chopra

Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Adarsh Shastri has sensationally accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after moving to the INC. Accusing the AAP convenor of selling election nominations, Shastri said that Chief Minister Kejriwal sold the assembly election tickets for Rs 10 crore to Rs 20 crore each.

The AAP nominated Vinay Mishra, son of Congress leader Mahabal Mishra, who had recently moved from the INC to the party, instead of Adarsh Shastri for Dwarka.

The party of Kejriwal was recently in news for corruption in its system of receiving donations, as activist and former volunteer of the party Neil Terrance Haslam dug out anomalies in its online process.

On Saturday, in an interesting development in the ongoing stir between political parties for the Delhi Assembly election, one Shastri left the INC while another joined the party. The first former Speaker Yoganand Shastri resigned from the INC and, shortly thereafter, Adarsh Shastri joined the oldest party of the country.

Adarsh Shastri, grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and AAP MLA from Dwarka seat of Delhi Assembly, joined the INC just before the election, giving a jolt to Arvind Kejriwal.

Unhappy with the ruling AAP for not nominating him in the assembly election in Delhi, Shastri broke ties with the party of Kejriwal and joined the INC in the presence of Delhi Pradesh Congress (DPC) president Subhash Chopra and the person in charge of INC’s Delhi campaign PC Chacko.

Senior leader of DPC and former Speaker Yoganand Shastri resigned from the party due to ideological differences with state president Chopra. Shastri told on Saturday that he has sent his resignation to the Congress in-charge PC Chacko, distressed by neglect in the party of dedicated INC workers.

Curiously, Yoganand Shastri’s allegation against the INC and Adarsh Shastri’s against the AAP are near-identical. Yoganand accused the leaders of the DPC of selling tickets in view of the upcoming election to the Delhi Assembly, saying, “The command of the state INC is with a person who does not respect anyone and is surrounded by people who have been busy selling tickets for the assembly election.”

Yoganand Shastri was upset with the prospect of not getting a ticket from the Mehrauli assembly seat in this election. He was a minister in the Sheila Dikshit government and also the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly until the INC was ousted in 2013 from Delhi.

Editor’s note: A disgruntled politician in Delhi quotes Rs 20 crore as a standard or fixed price of selling an assembly election nomination when he is denied a ticket. The standard figure quoted as a bribe amount for a municipal election nomination is Rs 40 lakh. These amounts are like the numeral 36 in Hindi idioms where “chhattis” may literally not mean thirty-six.
