Arvind Kejriwal, who returned to power for the third time in a row with yesterday’s landslide victory in Delhi, will take oath along with his entire cabinet at the Ramlila Maidan. Deputy chief minister in the previous Delhi government Manish Sisodia said today that Kejriwal has been elected as the leader of the legislative party and that he will be sworn in on 16 February.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won 62 out of 70 assembly seats in Delhi while BJP has got eight seats.
Legislature party leader Sisodia said that Kejriwal was unanimously elected leader in the legislature party meeting held today. Kejriwal has been elected MLA from the New Delhi assembly seat.
Giving information about the oath-taking of Kejriwal and his cabinet, Sisodia said, “Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will be sworn in at the Ramlila Maidan on 16 February. The entire cabinet will take oath along with him. The oath-taking programme will begin at 10 AM. We appeal to the people to come to the Ramlila Maidan and take an oath to liberate Delhi from the politics of hatred with Arvind Kejriwal ji. “
Earlier, Sisodia had thanked the two crore people of Delhi for expressing confidence in the AAP. He said, “The people of Delhi have given more than expected and openly so. Giving 62 seats out of 70 means that the people of Delhi have appreciated our work. Delhiites have proved Kejriwal is their son. People have rejected the politics of hate and have proved that here, work alone works. The people of Delhi have proved that the Kejriwal model is the real model of development.”
While for the union government and those of large states, the maximum strength of the council of ministers is 15% of the strength of the legislature, Delhi cannot have more than seven ministers, which is 10% of its Vidhan Sabha having a strength of 70. This is in accordance with the restriction imposed by Article 239AA of the Constitution of India.
