New Delhi: The defence ministry on thursday said the ongoing unrest in Kashmir Valley has adversely affected road construction activities of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
“BRO has suffered loss of more than 3 months of working season during summers. It is of serious concern, while endeavours are being made to execute work whenever and wherever possible. But owing to restrictions on movement of vehicles and persons, desired progress could not be made.” an official statement said.
Four-laning of the Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri Road, scheduled for completion by July 2016, has been delayed.
“In addition, many vehicles and equipment have been damaged, non-availability of which will directly affect the working. The most affected locations where delay/loss of work has been seen are Tangdhar, Anantnag, Kupwara and Bandipur sectors,” the statement said.
