Kashi-Mahakal Express to join pilgrims’ destinations in UP, MP

All the schedules of the Kashi-Mahakal Express that would cover three Jyotirlingas and other pilgrim centres of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh


After the Ramayana Express arrives another piece of good news for the Hindu pilgrim. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Kashi Mahakal Express from Varanasi on Sunday. It’s a train devoted to spiritual pursuits.

This train from Varanasi to Indore connects three Jyotirlingas: Kashi, Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar. The train will play recitals of hymns to the passengers through cassettes.

On the occasion, the prime minister said that his government was working for the development of faith-related sites across the country. In this episode, he flagged off the train connecting the place of Baba Vishwanath to Omkareshwar and Mahakaleshwar.

Chief Regional Manager of Railways Ashwini Srivastava said, “Special care has been taken of passengers in the Kashi Mahakal Express. We have organised bhajan-kirtan for the entertainment and spiritual feel of the passengers. On Sunday, the opening day, there will be a congregation that will sing bhajan and kirtan. The next congregation will be held on 20 February. Thereafter, people will be able to hear bhajan-kirtan from cassettes played in the coaches after an announcement for each.”

The Kashi-Mahakal Express, which will run from Varanasi to Indore beginning 20 February, has a package of eight different pilgrimage visits. The IRCTC has prepared a package for religious and tourist places of Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal.

Srivastava said that Kashi Mahakal Express would provide better facilities to tourists visiting major religious places of and Madhya Pradesh. “This will boost tourism for both the states,” he said.

The officer said that the package of Kashi Darshan I will cost Rs 6,010, which includes the Ganga Aarti at the Varanasi Ghat, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Sankat Mochan Temple and the Dashashwamedh Ghat.

The package for Kashi Darshan II is priced Rs 8,110, to which the philosophy of Sarnath will also be added.

Kashi-Prayag Darshan will cost Rs 10,050. This entails the package of a visit to the confluence of Prayag along with the package of Kashi Darshan II.

IRCTC Tourism and Marketing Director Rajni Hasija said that a total of five packages had been started for people from Indore, Bhopal or Ujjain to Varanasi. Four other packages will be for those going from Varanasi, Prayagraj and Lucknow.

Under the package, travellers can stop, eat and visit temples and tourist places. These packages can be chosen online. Other passengers travelling in the train can join the package if they pay on the spot while in the train.

The train will run from Varanasi on Tuesday and Thursday, that is two days a week. It will reach Indore via Lucknow, Kanpur, Bina, Bhopal, Ujjain.

On Wednesday and Friday, it will begin from Indore and pass through Ujjain, Sant Hirdaram Nagar (Bhopal), Bina, Kanpur and Lucknow to reach Varanasi.

The Varanasi-Indore via Prayagraj-Kanpur-Bina train will run on Sundays. It will reach Indore on Monday.

Every Monday, the Kashi Mahakal Express from Indore will go through Ujjain, Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Bina, Kanpur, Prayagraj to reach Varanasi.
