Karisma Kapoor’s film Dil To Pagal Hai and Raja Hindustani proved to be blockbusters. But did you know that these films were first offered to Juhi Chawla?
Juhi has recently claimed that both these films were offered to her before they went to Karisma. In an interview, Juhi has exposed her closet of regrets.
Juhi, disclosing the reasons for which she had rejected films like Raja Hindustani and Dil To Pagal Hai, said, “I started to feel this industry would not run without me. I got offers for many films but my ego came in the way.”
“I did not work in films that I could do. I preferred the easy work more and preferred those with whom I used to feel comfortable. I did not break my restrictions,” Juhi regretted.
Karisma succeeded because of me: Juhi
Due to this attitude of Juhi, she lost some of the best films. Now that time, like a tide, will not return, Juhi for sure feels that the careers of many other artistes shone due to her. According to Juhi, because of her wrong decisions, Karisma got a lot of fame and success in her career.
Karisma actually went on to receive a National Award for the film Dil To Pagal Hai while Raja Hindustani got the status of an all-time blockbuster.
On the work front, Juhi Chawla will be seen in the film Sharma Ji Namkeen with actor Rishi Kapoor. Web series Mentalhood featuring Karisma Kapoor was released recently. Karisma made her digital debut at this stage of her career through this web series of Ekta Kapoor.
Verifying Juhi’s claim
Juhi Chawla (born 13 November 1967) and Madhuri Dixit (born 15 May 1967) were senior to Karisma Kapoor (born 25 June 1974). Madhuri had debuted in 1984 with the film Abodh. She was never credited with a hit before Tezaab in 1988, the same year when Juhi became a recognisable name with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak although she had debuted in 1986 with Sultanat. Karisma’s first film Prem Qaidi hit the theatres in 1991.
All successful and unsuccessful actors alike have regretted not accepting to essay certain roles in films that went on to become superhits. It’s difficult to establish that the rejection of a film by one led to the success of another. Besides, as seen above, Juhi Chawla is a good seven years older than Karisma. The character that Karisma portrayed in Dil To Pagal Hai in 1997 demanded that she be much younger than her rival in love Madhuri Dixit. If Juhi had accepted the film, wouldn’t she have replaced Madhuri rather than Karisma?
