The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), probing the alleged nexus between drug peddlers and Bollywood celebrities, raided residence of Karishma Prakash, manager of Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone. The apex drug law enforcement agency seized a small quantity of hashish during the raid.
The NCB has summoned Karishma Prakash on 28 October to join the probe. The alleged drug nexus between drug peddlers and people associated with Bollywood came to light after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide.
Notably, the NCB had questioned Karishma Prakash last month. The NCB officials recovered 1.8 g of Hashish during a search at her house in Versova area.
“Karishma Prakash’s name cropped up during the questioning of one of the paddlers arrested by us in the case in which we are looking to bust drug networks around Bollywood, Based on the information, we raided her residence today. We found 1.7 g of charas and at least two bottles of CBD oil,” said an NCB official.
The official said at the time of the raid, Karishma Prakash was not home and the search at her residence was carried out in the presence of her acquaintances. “We have called her for questioning tomorrow to NCB, however, her phone has been switched off and we do not know where she is,” an official said.
Bollywood actresses Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan and Shraddha Kapoor were questioned by the NCB in September in a drugs-related case linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
So far, the NCB has arrested 23 people as part of its investigation in the drug case linked to SSR’s death.
Earlier, the central agency had arrested Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, SSR’s house manager Samuel Miranda, personal staff Dipesh Sawant and several others. While Rhea was released on bail, others still continue to remain in custody.
Earlier this month, the NCB arrested the brother of actor Arjun Rampal’s girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades in the drug case related to death of Sushant.
The NCB has had arrested former Dharma Productions executive producer Kshitij Ravi Prasad in connection with the sensational case.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai’s suburban Bandra on 14 June. The NCB started probing the drugs angle after Enforcement Directorate, proving the alleged money lanudering allegations in the case, retrieved several alleged chats relating to drugs from Rhea Chakraborty’s phone.
