Two days after a video a rave party hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar went viral on social media, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) headquarters in Delhi has forwarded a complaint against him, actress Deepika Padukone, actor Vicky Kaushal and others to Mumbai NCB for investigation. The ‘drug party’ was allegedly hosted in 2019.
Karan Johar had shared the video on his social media handle. Sirf News is naming the famous relations of these Bollywood personalities to help readers understand why some of them have gone vocal in protest against the insinuation that drug addiction affects a large part of Bollywood.
Apparently shot by Karan himself, the video shows Deepika Padukone, director Shakun Batra, Malaika Arora (Arbaz Khan’s former wife), Arjun Kapoor (Boney Kapoor’s son), Shahid Kapoor (Pankaj Kapoor and Neelima Azim’s son) and his wife Mira Rajput, Vicky Kaushal of Uri fame, Rohit Dhawan and Varun Dhawan (David Dhawan’s sons) and Varun’s girlfriend Natasha Dalal, Zoya Akhtar (Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani’s daughter), Ranbir Kapoor (Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor’s son), film director Ayan Mukerji (cousin of Kajol, Tanisha Mukerji and Rani Mukerji), filmmaker Pooja Shetty Deora (wife of Indian National Congress’s politician Milind Deora) and others in a state of intoxication. This was a Saturday.
A day before the party, Karan Johar had hosted Shah Rukh Khan separately.
Zoya Akhtar was present there on both the days.
Others who attended Karan Johar’s party are as follows.
After video shot by Karan caught Manjinder S Sirsa’s attention
The NCB action follows Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa meeting DG NCB Rakesh Asthana and registering a complaint against Karan Johar and other big Bollywood stars.
On 16 September, Sirsa had said on national television, “I met NCB chief and stressed on reinvestigating the matter of drugs of 2019. NCB chief gave assurance of investigation into Karan Johar’s party in 2019. Mumbai Police had not responded to Karan Johar house party complaint filed by me last year. There must be two reasons — one, they(Mumbai Police) are hand in glove with them and secondly, that drug is a very common thing.”
Sirsa added, “Bollywood must accept that there are black sheep and they need to throw them out. Bollywood should stand with NCB. I am hopeful that the NCB investigation will bring out the big names. I won’t stop in the coming days. I’ll move to court against Mumbai Police, filing a formal complaint against Mumbai Police also.”
Ironically, the Shiromani Akali Dal had lost the last Punjab election, facing, among other allegations, the charge of drug peddling by certain high-level functionaries of their state government.
Filmmaker in the dock had explained
Last month when the video had on the earlier occasion gone viral, Karan Johar said if drugs were indeed used, why would he record it and share the act online. He said, “There were achieving members of the industry who were having an easy night out after a hard week of work, having a good time. I took that video with all the earnestness… would I be putting out that video if there was anything happening at all, I am not stupid.”
Talking about the allegations on Vicky Kaushal of using powder, the Student of the Year director said, “Apparently you are not allowed to scratch your nose. Apparently, you are not allowed to put your phone in your back pocket. Apparently, a shadow of light is perceived to be some kind of powder.” He explained Vicky had just recovered from dengue and was, hence, drinking hot water repeatedly and still looking glum in the video.
