Kurian Joseph’s rants smack of ‘Christian hate for Hindus’, alleges college mate

Kumar Chellappan, junior to the retired judge in college, has alleged that the accusations of Justice Kurian Joseph owe to his allegiance to Christianity

New Delhi: Supreme Court judge Justice Kurian Joseph has begun issuing anti-government statements right after his retirement. On Monday, he said ex-Chief Justice Dipak Misra was “remote-controlled by an external source” that impacted the administration of justice, as reported by The Indian Express.

A Twitter user Kumar Chellappan, who happened to be junior to the judge in a college, has alleged that the accusations of the retired judge owe to his religious community that is by and large averse to the BJP, the current ruling party in the country.

In a series of tweets, @kumarchellappan has levelled a serious charge of sectarianism on the retired judge, saying the following. “Kurian Joseph is a fanatic Christian and was a member of the Kerala Congress (mani) before he was appointed a high court judge. He was sponsored by the Catholic Church. This fellow was my senior in Sankara College Kalady when I joined there in 1974,” he wrote on Twitter.

Chellappan wrote further, “Kurian Joseph, leader of Kerala Students Congress fought the election 4 General Secretary’s post in the 975 College Union election. The rivals charged him of misappropriating the college magazine fund to buy pants and shirts for himself. They even distributed pamphlets.”

After graduation, Chellappan writes, Kurian Joseph practised law and because of the patronage of Kerala Congress (Mani faction), he became a government pleader and advocate general. “You ask any lawyers in Kerala High Court and they will tell u (sic) he was an ordinary advocate. There are no landmark verdicts delivered by him,” the college mate of the judge tweeted.

“Kurian Joseph is communal, has links with dubious evangelists and (is) a known hater of Hinduism. These are his qualifications,” Chellappan concludes.

The profile of the Twitter handle is barely complete. It does not carry an image of the owner of the handle. However, the allegations of ‘Kumar Chellappan’, as the Twitter user identifies himself, is catching the fancy of other users of the micro-blogging site. From Twitter, the allegations have made their way to Facebook.

Justice Kurian Joseph was one of the four senior Supreme Court judges who had held an unprecedented press conference in January to cast aspersions on the then CJI Dipak Misra. After retirement, Justice Joseph revealed that the press meet was Justice J Chelameswar’s idea.
