Jammu on high alert after 3 drones spotted again

On 28 June, a fresh attempt to target a military installation in Jammu with drones was foiled, which was the second incident of the type

Security forces have launched a search operation in some areas of Jammu after the suspected movement of drones were spotted again on the intervening night of 29 and 30 June. The locals said that they claim to spot 3 suspected drone movements by civilians and nearby people. This the fourth time that drones’ movement have been spotted.

Police and army officials are verifying the information and local administration is scanning the whole area.

“After the suspected movement, searches have been launched in the area and teams of security forces are on job to trace the drone,” officials said.

As per the information available, suspected drones movement was spotted in Kharian area of Miran Sahib, Kaluchak area of  Jammu, and Kunjwani area of the city, respectively.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) 29 June took over the charge of investigation into the recent drone attack on the Indian Force station located at the Jammu airport, an official said.

The decision to hand over the probe into the first-of-its-kind terror attack at the Indian Air Force station in the early hours of 27 June was taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs. In pursuance of the Home Ministry order, the NIA said it has re-registered the case of Police Station Satwari dated 27 June.

The banned Lashkar-e-Taiba terror outfit is suspected to have been behind the sensational drone attack on the Indian Air Force station in Jammu on 27 June morning with indication that the unmanned aerial vehicles had come from across the border.

Earlier on 28 June, a fresh attempt to target a military installation in Jammu with drones was foiled by alert soldiers. Army sentries at the Ratnuchak-Kaluchak military station in Jammu fired at the two drones that later disappeared, an incident that came hours after the nearby IAF station witnessed the first terror attack using quadcopters.

Later, three suspected drones were spotted again at three different locations in Jammu on the intervening night of 28 and 29 June. The locals said that the first drone was seen in Kaluchak cantonment area. The second was spotted in Ratnuchak cantonment area and the third in Kunjwani area.
