Islamist attack plan during Christmas holidays foiled

Two 23-year- Islamist terrorists were arrested and charged with a “ terrorist association” for planning a knife attack in a busy location [Meaux (Seine-et-Marne) and Pecq (Yvelines)] in France today. The two radicalised individuals had been indicted in early December for having planned a knife attack during the Christmas period, a judicial source in Le Figaro had reported on 22 December, confirming information from Le Parisien.

The suspects were being monitored by the Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI) following recent exchanges on the internet, where they spoke of a violent knife attack planned by Christmas in the name of Islam, reports Le Parisien.

The two Islamist radicals met once in recent weeks. They planned to target a place particularly frequented during the holiday season, such as a shopping centre or shopping streets.

Kill ‘disbelievers’

The accused, both aged 23, had first been arrested on 29 November and then indicted for “ association criminal terrorist ”and imprisoned on 3 December. A preliminary investigation was opened by the national anti-terrorism prosecution (Pnat). During a search operation in their house, knives, laptops and computers were seized, along with voluminous jihadi propaganda material.

During police custody, one of the Islamist individuals said he wished to kill “disbelievers”, before dying as a martyr, probably shot dead by the police. He claimed further that the duo had Daesh (ISIS) membership.

The other Islamist, however, denied any terrorist project. This is the fourth foiled Islamist attack in this part of France since the beginning of 2021. The previous attacks have been tabled below.
