Delhi Police suspects that the demonstrations against the CAA, which turned into riots, have some association with terrorist organisation ISIS. The police have arrested two people from Delhi associated with ISIS. The couple — Jahanzeb Sami and Hina Bashir Baig — was found inciting demonstrators against the amended citizenship law (CAA).
On behalf of Delhi Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pramod Singh Kushwaha said that the cops arrested this couple from Jamia Nagar in Okhla. Their names are Jahanzeb Sami and Hina Bashir Baig.
The cops have found some evidence of the couple’s association with the Khorasan module of the ISIS. The couple was fueling protests against the CAA.
In February-end, intelligence agencies found that terror outfits, including ISIS, were scrambling to use riots images for radicalisation and headhunting. According to security agencies, encrypted chat rooms, Telegram, WhatsApp and DarkNet were then buzzing with propaganda, exhorting youth to join a violent jihad.
Investigating agencies found posters and online newsletter on the encrypted chat network of an Indian subcontinent focused Islamic State-aligned media unit. The ISIS document the agencies dug out carried a picture of an anti-CAA protest at Red Fort on its cover with a message:
The online magazine also has images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and NSA Ajit Doval.
The arrest of the ISIS-linked couple comes on a day when AAP councillor Tahir Hussain’s interrogation has yielded that the violence in north-east Delhi was planned. The SIT is investigating whether Shahrukh Pathan — who pointed a gun at policemen during the riot — has any connection with Hussain.
However, during his interrogation, Hussain insisted that he was not present on the roof of his house; those were other people who had occupied the space. He claimed he had called the police control room (PCR) several times for help, but the police did not respond.
Hussain has demanded he be put through a narco test.
Protests are going on against CAA-NRC at many places in the capital Delhi. The Shaheen Bagh area of Jamia is one of them. In Shaheen Bagh, the main road is still closed. This road connects Noida to Delhi and Faridabad.
