United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday acknowledged a Fox News report that said the coronavirus may have been accidentally leaked by an intern working at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. While this is China admitting that the virus was not a curse of nature but its own doing, it is still an exercise of finding a scapegoat to put the blame of the communist regime on, which the American media is credulously believing in.
The exclusive report by Fox News based on the unnamed sources claimed that though the strain of the virus occurred naturally in bats and is not a bioweapon, it was studied in China’s “infamous” laboratory in Wuhan. Was that the P4 Lab that indeed builds biological weapons for China? Or was that the academic-sounding Wuhan Institute of Virology?
The initial transmission of the virus was bat-to-human, the news channel said. It added that ‘Patient Zero’, the intern, worked at the laboratory. The lab employee was accidentally infected before she spread the disease among the common people outside the lab in Wuhan city.
A more accurate indictment of Beijing comes by way of Fox News accepting that the Wuhan wet market never really sold bats. It was a setup established by China to shift the blame from the state-run laboratory. But if so, why blame an intern? Why not say the intern — or whoever she infected, in turn — was sent on purpose to the Wuhan market?
The lab was studying the virus as per the strategy of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to “demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the United States,” Fox News reported, citing multiple unnamed sources.
Reporter John Roberts said: “Multiple sources are telling media today that the United States now has high confidence that, while the coronavirus is a naturally occurring virus, it emanated from a virology lab in Wuhan, that, because of lax safety protocols, an intern was infected, who later infected her boyfriend, and then went to the wet market in Wuhan, where it then began to spread.”
President Trump neither confirmed nor denied the report, but said that the US authorities were doing a very thorough examination of this “horrible situation that happened.”
The news channel alleged that it could be China’s costliest coverup and the World Health Organisation might have been a part of it from the very beginning.
As per a recent report in The Washington Post, two years ago, US embassy officials in China had informed their government about the lack of biosafety measures in the Chinese government-run Wuhan Institute of Virology where deadly viruses and infectious diseases are studied, as per a report by the agency Indo Asian News Service.
Though the institute, located quite close to the Wuhan wet market, is China’s first biosafety level IV lab, the US state department had warned in 2018 about “serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators needed to safely operate this high-containment laboratory”.
But, anyway, now an intern gets all the blame.
