Injured Ranveer Singh not to perform at IPL opening ceremony

The 32-year-old star has been advised not to overstrain his shoulder, which he injured during a football match

Mumbai: Ranveer Singh was scheduled to perform at this year’s opening ceremony on 7 April but he won’t be able to participate due to a shoulder injury, the actor’s spokesperson said today. The 32-year-old star has been advised not to overstrain his shoulder, which he injured during a football match.

“After multiple medical check-ups, the doctors have strongly advised Ranveer Singh to not perform at this year’s IPL opening ceremony in which he was doing the finale act. They feel his high-energy performance would only overstrain his shoulder and aggravate the injury,” his spokesperson said in a statement.

Ranveer, however, will continue shooting for his film , directed by Zoya Akhtar.

“Ranveer Singh has injured his shoulder during a football match and has been advised not to overstrain it for at least one month. Ranveer is, however, not taking any breaks and will continue shooting for Gully Boy as per schedule,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

His highest-grossing release came with Bhansali’s period drama Padmaavat, in which he portrayed Alauddin Khilji to critical acclaim with co-starring Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, which marked his third collaboration with Bhansali and Padukone.

Singh will star opposite Alia Bhatt in Zoya Akhtar’s , a musical based on the life of rappers living in Mumbai’s ghettos. He will also star in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, a remake of the Telugu action film Temper, co-starring Sara Ali Khan. Singh has also committed to a biopic of the cricketer Kapil Dev, entitled 83.
