The Indian National Congress (INC) has released its list of 54 candidates for the Delhi assembly election. Alka Lamba, who had joined the INC after leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been nominated from the Chandni Chowk Assembly seat.
The party has taken the unexpected decision to give a ticket to Adarsh Shastri, who went to INC today from AAP from Dwarka, suggesting he had negotiated the terms of joining this party before quitting the AAP that denied him a nomination from the constituency he favoured.
INC has given tickets to Aaron Yusuf from Ballimaran, Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar, Chaudhary Matin Ahmed from Seelampur.
According to the INC’ first list of candidates, Laxman Rawat from Padparganj will contest against Manish Sisodia. Former minister AK Walia has been given ticket from Krishna Nagar instead of Laxminagar. Kirti Azad’s wife Poonam Azad has been given ticket from Sangam Vihar.
In the first list of the party, 8 women have got tickets. According to the first list of the INC, Shivani Chopra, daughter of Delhi INC President Subhash Chopra, got a ticket from Kalkaji. Apart from this, Rajesh Lilothia got a ticket from Mangolpuri and Arvinder Singh Lovely, who contested the Lok Sabha elections, from Gandhinagar.
The INC has not announced any candidate from the New Delhi assembly seat like the BJP yet. The day before, BJP announced 57 candidates, but it did not announce any name for the New Delhi seat either. Significantly, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is contesting on this seat.
The Election Commission (EC) had announced the date of assembly election in the country’s capital Delhi on 6 January. The model code of conduct has been enforced in the capital. Votes will be cast in all 70 assembly seats in Delhi on 8 February and election results will be announced on 11 February.
In the capital, the ruling party AAP once again faces the BJP and the INC.
