How plausible is Manish Sisodia’s allegation that CBI official committed suicide under pressure to frame Delhi Dy CM?

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia made a sensational claim today that a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official, whose dead body was recovered three days ago, had committed suicide after he was pressured to frame the AAP leader in a false case. Sisodia asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why were being pressured so much.

“A CBI officer was pressured to frame me in a false case. He could not take the mental pressure and died by suicide… I want to ask the PM why are being pressured so much that they take such extreme steps,” Sisodia said at a press conference.

How plausible is Manish Sisodia's allegation?

The case of apparent suicide by a legal advisor of CBI had surfaced in Delhi three days ago. The body of a legal advisor of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was found hanging at his south Delhi residence on 1 September. Sharing the information, cops at the Defense Colony station said they had received a call at 6:47 AM that morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Benita Marie Jacker said Jitendra Kumar (48), posted as deputy legal adviser in the Lodhi Road office of CBI, was found hanging in his S-22 Type-4 HUDCO Place house.

Kumar was a native of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.

Jacker said that a suicide note had been recovered, which stated that no one was responsible for Kumar's extreme decision. said Kumar's wife Jyoti and brother Rajendra had reached Delhi from Mandi and Chandigarh respectively.

said that there was no apprehension of any foul play and that the body had been kept in the mortuary.

The Colony station sent the dead body to AIIMS for a -mortem after informing the family members of the deceased. The police then registered a case of suicide and started investigation into the matter.

It seems Sisodia is trying to twist a coincidence of an unnatural death in the recent past to his political advantage.

CBI rubbishes Manish Sisodia's theory

The CBI has issued a statement, rubbishing the allegation of the Delhi Deputy chief minister, saying, "… one of the FIR-named accused in Case RC No. 53/2022 dated 17.08.22 pertaining to Delhi Excise Policy for year 2021-22, stated that Shri Jitendra Kumar, Deputy Legal Advisor in CBI committed suicide because he was pressurized (sic) to make a strong false case against him".

The CBI strongly refuted the "mischievous and misleading" statement by Sisodia, saying that "the gentleman officer Late Shri Jitendra Kumar was in no way connected with the investigation of this case."
The CBI clarified that Kumar was a Deputy Legal Advisor in charge of prosecution. In that capacity, the agency said, "he was supervising prosecutors who are conducting the trial of already charge-sheeted cases in Delhi".

Further, the agency said, as per Delhi Police, which is conducting inquest into the death, "their officer has not held anyone responsible for his death in his suicide note".

The CBI said that the excise policy case was under investigation. "As such no clean chit has been given to any of the accused," the agency said.

The "mischievous and misleading statement" of Sisodia is an "attempt to divert attention from the ongoing investigation in Delhi Excise Policy case, and also amounting to interference in the inquest proceedings into the death of the gentleman officer", the CBI said in the statement.
