In yet another act of cleansing indigenous Pandits from the valley, Islamic terrorists have shot dead a Kashmiri Hindu high school teacher in District Kulgam of Jammu and Kashmir today. “It happened around 10 AM. I saw a teacher shot in her head. Another teacher picked her up for help, I informed Police,” the Gopalpora village head said.
The victim has been identified as Rajni Bala (36), who was a Hindu and resident of Samba (Jammu division). She first sustained injuries when terrorists fired at her in the Gopalpora area of Kulgam where she was working as a teacher, police said. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival, the officials said.
“The terrorists involved in this gruesome terror crime will be soon identified and neutralised,” the police said. The entire area attack has been cordoned off to arrest the assassins.
Kashmiri Hindus aka Pandits are demonstrating in Srinagar against the religious killings by terrorists. Bala’s relative said, “We want justice. Govt should do something about targeted killings. Security should be given to migrant employees there (Kashmir division).”
Meanwhile, National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah customarily termed the attack on the teacher a “despicable” act. “Rajni was from Samba District of Jammu province. A government teacher working in the Kulgam area of South Kashmir, she lost her life in a despicable targeted attack. My heart goes out to her husband Raj Kumar & the rest of her family. Another home irreparably damaged by violence,” he said.
“This is yet another targeted killing in a long list of recent attacks directed at unarmed civilians. Words of condemnation & condolence ring hollow as do the assurances of the government that they will not rest until the situation normalises. May the deceased rest in peace,” Abdullah said.
And PDP president Mehbooba Mufti seized the opportunity to question the union government’s claims of normalcy in Kashmir — in the backdrop of these targeted killings. “Despite the Government of India’s fake claims about Kashmir being normal, it’s obvious that targeted civilian killings are on the rise & a deep cause of concern (sic). Condemn this act of cowardice which sadly plays into the vicious anti-Muslim narrative spun by the BJP (edited),” she tweeted.
Sajjad Lone condemned the killing too, saying cowardice has yet again plummeted to shameless depths. “A teacher, an innocent woman hailing from Samba, has been shot dead in Kulgam. May her soul rest in peace,” he said.
BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur said he strongly condemned the attack. “Yet another dastardly act of terrorism in Kulgam. Attacking unarmed civilians, that too women, is no bravery but an act of frustration,” he added.
This is the second killing of a Kashmiri Hindu in the month of May. Earlier this month, two civilians, including Kashmiri Pandit employee Rahul Bhat, and three off-duty policemen were killed in Kashmir by Islamic terrorists.
These deaths follow a series of killings that have been happening since August 5, 2019, the day when the Union government stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and downgraded it to a union territory — with the promise of giving it back the status of a state in due course — while simultaneously bifurcating the region into J&K and Ladakh union territories.
