Mumbai: Indian cinema has lost one of its brightest stars in Sridevi. The news of the sad demise of legendary actor Sridevi has sent shock waves among film fraternity. While earlier reports suggested ‘cardiac attack’, the twist in the tale arrived when the autopsy report stated ‘accidental drowning’ as the cause of death.
Sridevi’s co-star, Sajal Ali, who played her daughter in the film Mom reacted to the news of the actor’s sad demise.
Sridevi returned with her brilliant ‘English Vinglish’ in the film industry after a gap of 15 years. Sridevi was applauded for having such a triumphant comeback. Her recent release, thriller ‘Mom’, we saw the actress dip into a darker role as the mother seeking justice for her daughter, played by Sajal Ali. The film marks Sridevi’s 300th film in her tremendous career and is the first time she worked with cross-border gems Sajal Ali and Adnan Siddiqui.
Sajal Ali, who portrayed the role of Sridevi’s daughter on screen in Mom (2017), says the late actor would always call and message her and also find opportunities to meet her, as often as possible. Sajal spoke to us from Karachi, as she was preparing to leave for Dubai.
Ali said She was like my mother. I am in a state of shock right now… It feels like losing my mother again. December last year, Sridevi sent her a text from there saying: ‘I missed you beta. That’s the last message I have from her. After that, we spoke quite a few times in the last two months. When she called me a few days back I missed her call because I was shooting and I was thinking of calling her back, but I guess I took too much time to do that.
The last I spoke to her, she complained ‘aap Mujhe call nahi karte ho, kya aap ko meri yaad nahi aati’ and then she made me promise that I must call or message her every day… She would tell me that she would take care of me, make me eat a lot so that I put on some weight.
The actress hasn’t been able to experience the premiere of her new film with Sajal and Adnan, gravely upsetting her as she broke down midway.
