Hardik Pandya ruled out of Asia Cup 2018 due to injury

Pacer Deepak Chahar is set to land in the UAE on Thursday as stated by a BCCI official, Chahar has played just a solitary T20I for India

New Delhi: India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the ongoing Asia Cup with an acute back injury and Deepak Chahar is likely to be his replacement. Chahar will be landing in Dubai on Thursday as per BCCI sources.

Pandya not taking further part in the tournament was expected after he was stretchered off the field during the group league encounter against Pakistan on Wednesday.

Pandya was into his 5th over, when after completing the follow through, the all-rounder immediately felt his lower back and fell on the ground. He laid on the pitch under considerable pain as players rushed to check the situation. The medical team then came in and stretchered him off after he was unable to get back on his feet. He ended with figures of 4.5-0-24-0.

Meanwhile, this is the third instance in the last three months where an Indian player has been unable to play due to aggravated injuries. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and R Ashwin were the previous casualties. While Kumar missed the Test series in England, Ashwin had to sit out for the last Test.

Later, the BCCI tweeted that Pandya was suffering from an acute lower back injury.

Pacer Deepak Chahar is set to land in the UAE on Thursday as stated by a BCCI official. Chahar has played just a solitary T20I for India. He was a part of India A squad for the quadrangular series. The Rajasthan cricketer will now miss the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He excelled, this year, in the IPL and picked 10 wickets.

Chahar picked 10 wickets in 4 games in the tri-series in England for India A team. He had also replaced injured Jasprit Bumrah in the T20I squad for the series against England. He could be making his ODI debut in the Super Four of the Asia Cup.

India’s next game is against Bangladesh on Friday at 5:00 PM IST.
