Crime Hangman to reach Tihar day after to end Nirbhaya's tribulations on 20...

The Delhi court has fixed the hanging date of the four convicts Akshay Thakur, Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma on 20 March in the 2012 gangrape case, for which hangman Pawan will reach Tihar Jail on 17 March. The hanging of the four convicts has been postponed thrice before, but it is believed that they will be hanged on 20 March.

Tihar Jail officials have said that the hangman will arrive at the jail on Tuesday (17 March). He also told that the jail authorities will also practice it through dummy before the hanging on March 20.

Hangman had rehearsed on 3 March

Previously, the convicts of Nirbhaya tried everything possible to protect themselves from hanging, moving the Supreme Court, Patiala House Court to Rashtrapati Bhavan in turns in the process — with the help of their lawyer. On 3 March, however, the Tihar Jail administration had completed preparations for the execution.

Jail officials said that hangman Pawan had even practised hanging the four convicts in Tihar through dummies on 3 March, but it was later stayed by the court.

Third Tihar visit

This will be the third time that Pawan, the hangman, has been called to Tihar Jail for hanging the convicts in the Nirbhaya case. Delhi’s Patiala House Court issued their death warrant for the fourth time.

The convicts were to be hanged on 3 March, but keeping in mind the mercy petition pending, the court stayed the hanging till further orders on 2 March.

Meanwhile, according to news agency ANI, “Three convicts have approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ) seeking (a) stay on the execution of their death sentence. The three convicts who approached the ICJ are Akshay, Pawan and Vinay.” Earlier, some Twitter users had posted this but those posts were taken for pranks or sarcastic comments.

No change in convicts’ behaviour

Doctors and officials who are conducting a behavioural study of all the four convicts of Nirbhaya are surprised that the four inmates on death row are behaving normally, with only a few days left in their execution. This time, if there is no legal further hurdle, at 5:30 in the morning of 20 March, all the four will be hanged, which is known to all the four. Despite this, the officials do not see much change in the routine of Akshay Thakur, Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma.
