Assam police arrested 11 people dressed in army uniform but not in possession of any valid identification near the Guwahati international airport on 16 November night when they were moving around suspiciously.
“A police party on patrolling duty detained four persons wearing army uniforms from near the airport on 16 November night. On verification, it was found that they were not authorised to wear the uniform and had ulterior motives,” said a police statement issued on 17 November.
On the basis of information provided by four of the arrested men, police arrested seven others who were in army uniforms without valid documents, moving around suspiciously near the airport.
“During the interrogation, it was found that one Dhriman Goswami had given them fake appointment letters to provide security at the airport. Goswami has been arrested with the 10 others. Search of the houses of the arrested persons has led to recovery of some documents, ID cards etc,” the statement said. Guwahati Police has lodged a case under various sections of IPC for impersonating army personnel, criminal conspiracy, counterfeiting government stamps, forgery etc. Further investigation is underway.

“We arrested 11 persons. They have been roaming in army uniform since last one month. We are investigating for further details,” said a senior police official.
Police recovered a four-wheeler, five motorbikes and fake identity cards of Indian Army from their possession. The group of miscreants in the camouflage was reportedly involved in many illegal activities in Guwahati. They allegedly cheated many in the name of selling vehicles and other electronic materials.
