In what appears to be inspired by the crime series Breaking Bad, an expert in chemistry was making contraband and running a drug racket. Mumbai Police has busted a manufacturing unit of mephedrone (MD) in Gujarat and seized more than 500 kg of the contraband substance worth Rs 1,026 crore. Based on a tip-off, the Worli unit of the police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) raided a manufacturing unit in Ankleshwar town of Gujarat on 13 August and seized 513 kg of the synthetic drug, he said. The ANC team also arrested the owner of the drug unit, Giriraj Dixit, who holds a master's degree in chemistry, the official said.
The ANC team apprehended drug peddler Giriraj Dikshit and recovered a shipment of over 500 kg of MD narcotics from his possession. The recovery was made after a raid in the Ankleshwar area. The value of the seized consignment is worth 1026 crores in the international market.
Earlier, MD drugs worth Rs 1 thousand crores had been recovered from the same gang from the warehouse of Mumbai, Nalasopara. Till now, MD drugs worth about 2046 crores have been recovered. The police have caught seven suspects.
The total value of MD drugs recovered from this interstate drug smuggling gang is more than Rs 2,400 crore. These MD drugs were made in the factory of Gujarat and brought to the warehouses of Vasai, Nalasopara, via the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway through trucks and auto-rickshaws. These narcotics substances were supplied from these warehouses to different drug peddlers in Mumbai.

A scene from Breaking Bad
Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, between 2008 and 2010, Breaking Bad follows Walter White, a modest high school chemistry teacher who transforms into a ruthless kingpin in the local methamphetamine drug trade, driven to financially provide for his family after being diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. Initially making only small batches of meth with his former student Jesse Pinkman in a rolling meth lab, Walter and Jesse eventually expand to make larger batches of special blue meth that is incredibly pure and creates high demand. Walter takes on the name "Heisenberg" to mask his identity. Because of his drug-related activities, Walter eventually finds himself at odds with his family, the Drug Enforcement Administration through his brother-in-law Hank Schrader, the local gangs, and the Mexican drug cartels (including their regional distributors), putting him and his family's lives at risk.
