New Delhi — Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia has started holding detailed meetings from today onwards with industry and business representatives of major national chambers as well as with the representatives of different sectors in order to generate new ideas for tax policy reforms for the next budget.
The Ministry of Finance is conscious of the fact that tax policy could be an important instrument of enhancing the speed of economic growth of the country and, therefore, it is important to have proper stakeholder consultations with out-of-the-box thinking. This is obviously an attempt in that direction.

The first such meeting was held here today with a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) delegation consisting of Naushad Forbes, president-designate of CII, and 10 other representatives of the said business association. Similar meetings will be held with representatives of FICCI on 30 September, with ASSOCHAM on 6 October 6 and with PHD Chamber of Commerce on 7 October.
The revenue secretary will also have such meetings with industry and business representatives in Bengaluru on 1 October and in Ahmedabad on 10 October.
Soon after this, he is slated to hold sectoral meetings with industry and business representatives from electronic and IT industry, telecom industry, power industry, road transport and highway industry and the financial services sector in the presence of secretaries of the concerned departments from 26 to 30 October.
