Farmer died of accidental injuries, not gunshot wound

Heavy security forces continue to remain deployed at the Red Fort and Tikri border where farmers are protesting against the central farm laws for over two months

The autopsy report of the farmer who died during Farmer Tractor March on Republic Day has ruled out bullet injury. Navneet Singh a resident of Dibdiba village in Bilaspur police station area died of accidental injuries and not gunshot injuries revealed the postmortem report.

The farmer died when his tractor overturned while he was performing a stunt in central Delhi.

Avinash Chandra, Additional Director of Police (ADG) Bareilly in Rampur, UP, said that the farmer succumbed to the injuries which he received after his tractor turned turtle as seen in the viral video.

“Yesterday night, three senior doctors conducted the postmortem and it did not show bullet injury. He succumbed to the antemortem injuries which he received after his tractor turned turtle as seen in the viral video. The last rights of the deceased were conducted in a peaceful way at his village,” ADG said.

He said baseless allegations had been made that the protester died due to bullet injury.

Several rumours circulated on social media about the death of the farmer during the tractor march. In the video, the farmer was seen doing stunts on the road when his tractor overturned.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has arrested 19 people while registering more than 25 criminal cases in connection with the violence.

Delhi Police has also named Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu and gangster Lakka Sadana in an FIR.

37 farmer leaders, including Rakesh Tikait, Yogendra Yadav and Medha Patkar, have been named in an FIR over charges of rioting, criminal conspiracy and attempt to murder.

Delhi witnessed unprecedented farmer riots during the tractor march on Republic Day. Violating the terms of agreement about the route for the tractor march agitating farmers entered central Delhi after forcibly removing barricades.

More than 300 policemen were injured in the violence and several vehicles were damaged.
