On the occasion of National Voters’ Day, the Election Commission today launched the Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card (e-EPIC) programme to provide a secure PDF version of the voter ID card that can be downloaded on a mobile phone or in the self-printable format on computers.
This is the first time that the government is going to issue voter id cards in a digital format. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the e-EPIC programme and distribute digital voter ID cards to five new voters.
“India has a population of 130 crore+, 90 crore voters and 10 lakh booths and to conduct elections in a peaceful manner is a challenge but the Election commission does a commendable work by conducting flawless and impartial elections,” the minister tweeted on the occasion.
Other identity proofs like the Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving license are available already in digital format.
The e-EPIC initiative is being launched in two phases. The first phase began today. New voters who had applied for the voter ID card will be able to download the e-EPIC through the help of their registered mobile number. The second phase will begin on 1 February when people across the nation can apply for the e-EPIC cards.
eKYC is liveliness check with random body movements, involves capturing a live photo of the person in real-time image capture and compare with Picture used in EPIC data. If eKYC fails, visit ERO office along with Photo ID proof and update your mobile number It requires mobile phone/Tab with Camera or Laptop/Desktop with webcam. Each member can do eKYC against single mobile number and after eKYC you can download e-EPIC.
What is e-EPIC?
The e-EPIC (Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card) programme is a non-editable secure portable document format (PDF) version of the EPIC. In this, the people will have a secured QR code with image and demographics like serial number, part number, etc. Now, the voters will be able to download the e-EPIC on their mobile phones or a computer and can store it digitally.
You can search your name in Electoral Roll from http://voterportal.eci.gov.in/ or http://electoralsearch.in/, note your EPIC number and then download e-EPIC
Step 1: The first thing you need to do is to log on to https://voterportal.eci.gov.in/
Step 2: Now, click on the option of download E-EPIC.
Step 3: The download process began from 11.14 AM onwards from 25 January.
