Dhoni-vs-Kohli debate heats up as IPL 2019 begins

In the last IPL season, Kohli had scored 18 and 8 runs in two matches against CSK while Dhoni scored a remarkable 70 and 31 runs

New Delhi: The 12th edition of the IPL Twenty20 league begins on Saturday between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). This match will be played at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.¬†However, in this match, another competition will be seen between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. This match, where both the stars feature, has set tongues wagging in cricket circles.

RCB’s effort will be to start with a win and make a strong claim for the title for the first time. Defending champion CSK will once again want to prove with a win why they are the favourites for the title.

#DhoniVsKohli has been the top hashtag trend on Twitter on Saturday for hours on end.

Virat’s efforts will prove useful in answering critics while his captaincy will be tested as much, as a lot of questions about his leadership ability were raised during the recently concluded ODI series against Australia.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir was among the veterans who had questioned Kohli’s captaincy.

The battle between the teams will be led by the formidable batting orders of RCB and CSK.

Kohli has scored 732 runs against CSK, the highest against any team in IPL history. He has scored more than 30 runs against CSK 12 times, which is the best by any batsman.

Dhoni has scored 710 runs against RCB, the highest run scored by a batsman against Bangalore in IPL.

However, in the last season, Kohli scored 18 and 8 runs in two matches against CSK while Dhoni scored a remarkable 70 and 31 runs. Chennai had won both these matches.

Apart from these figures, if the match situation is to go by, Chennai enjoys an edge. Kohli’s team has not been able to beat this side since the 2014 IPL. RCB has since suffered 6 defeats in the hands of CSK.
