Sports Dhoni showered with tributes: #ThankYouMSDhoni

The Indian cricket team has started to gear up for its first cricketing assignment Down Under, but unlike the past 15 months, no questions were raised over MS Dhoni’s possible return ahead of the team selection meeting as the former skipper had officially announced his retirement on 15 August, 2020.

After the BCCI selection committee announced a Dhoni-less 32-member squad for Australia tour on 26 October, the board paid a subtle tribute to one of its greatest cricketing servants ever. Dhoni might be busy with the core of the Indian cricket team in UAE for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 but he won’t be a part of the contingent that will fly from Dubai to Sydney after the IPL gets completed on 10 November.

With Indian cricket set to embark upon a new era, the BCCI changed its Twitter cover picture as a tribute to MS Dhoni with the hashtag #ThankYouMSDhoni. The tribute has been welcomed wholeheartedly by Dhoni’s fans, with several taking to social media to hail the board’s initiative.

Dhoni in IPL 2020

It wasn’t the most pleasant comeback for Dhoni in the IPL as his franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the first team to bow out of the playoffs race following an under-par performance this season. Dhoni himself has been on a barren patch this term, failing to script a single match-winning performance for the team.

After the recent victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, Dhoni admitted to the remaining days in the IPL being ‘painful’ considering what CSK have done this year.

“If you don’t do well, it does hurt and so you amplify a few emotions so that the guys don’t leave the games. We don’t really have a chance to make it to the play-offs, leave the mathematical part of it. But three, three and a half hours out there can get really painful. You have to tell them – let’s go out there and give it your best shot and enjoy the game whatever the result might be. If you aren’t out there enjoying, it becomes very painful,” he said.

The good news for CSK fans is that the franchise CEO has already confirmed the plans to have Dhoni leading the team in the IPL Season 14. While the development does bring relief to the hearts of fans, everyone would be hoping for Dhoni to put in a better show than he did this time around.
