Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee donates 1.5 crore for relief against COVID-19

Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee  took to Instagram to share a written announcement of the contribution for the cause

Ace Sabyasachi Mukherjee on Saturday pledged to donate 1 crore of personal funds to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) and 5 lakh to the Chief Minister of West Bengal’s Relief to help the battle against COVID-19.

Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee  took to Instagram to share a written announcement of the contribution for the cause.

“After securing my employees, I am pledging Rs 1 crore of personal funds to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), and an additional Rs 5 lakh to the Chief Minister of West Bengal’s Relief Fund, with the expectation that the money is used to ramp up medical facilities in the country,” the statement reads.

Designer also stressed that the contribution is not considered as a ‘charity’ nor did he seek any kind of ‘praise.’

“Everything we do today combats the massive challenge that we are facing as a nation and as a world. Our investments in today’s efforts will come back to us all exponentially in the future,” adds the statement.

He also urged everyone to stay home as a measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Earlier, actor pledged to contribute 25 crore from his savings to the PM-CARES Fund. Varun Dhawan also pledged to contribute 30 lakh to PM-CARES to help the battle against COVID-19.

Cricketer-turned-politician and MP on Saturday released Rs 1 crore out of his MP Local Area Development Scheme towards the relief efforts amid the coronavirus pandemic. He also donated his one month’s salary towards the Central Relief Fund.

Cricketer Suresh Raina on Saturday also pledged to donate Rs 31 lakhs to PM-CARES Fund, and Rs 21 to UP CM’s Relief against the COVID-19 battle.

India’s richest sports body Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday joined the corona fight and pledged a donation of Rs 51 crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
