Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday that his government will give pulse oximeters to the COVID-19 patients under home isolation and said the number of coronavirus tests has increased by three times in the national capital.

A total of 25,000 active COVID-19 cases are in Delhi and around 12,000 people are under home isolation. Briefing media, Kejriwal said, there has been a three times increase in testing in the national and now around 18,000 COVID-19 tests are being conducted daily.

He said, serious cases are less in the city and most of the cases are mild. Kejriwal added that seven thousand beds are vacant across Delhi. The Chief Minister said the government will give pulse oximeters to all those under home isolation to measure their levels.

From 15 to 21 June, Delhi reported 18,564 coronavirus cases. However, 16,790 people also recovered from the disease in the national in the said period.

The chief minister said till now, Delhi did not require beds for COVID-19 patients on a large scale as most of them recovered from the disease, adding that the number of serious patients is also less in the national capital.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “Delhi has seen a surge in the cases of Coronavirus, and while on one hand, we are trying to bring the situation under control by working together with the Central government and the people of Delhi, on the other hand, we are trying to provide the best treatment to the people who have been infected with Coronavirus. Around 33000 people have recovered and gone back to their homes, and there are 6000 people in the hospitals and 12000 Coronavirus patients are recovering under home isolation.”

Amidst the debate over the dearth of tests getting done, the Delhi Government claims that it has increased testing up to three times. Earlier around 5000 tests were conducted per day, which has now been increased to 18000 tests per day. Also, all the labs have been directed to work on their full capacity and to work on a fair basis.

Delhi CM thanked the central government and said that with their help, the Antigen tests have also been started in Delhi, which gives the results in around 15 minutes. He added, “All the people with very mild symptoms or who are asymptomatic, are treated at their homes. Our team assists them with daily calls and advises them on what to do on a daily basis. The only issue that Coronavirus is that the patient may experience a shortage of breath and his/her level may fall down. In that case, lives will be saved if the patients are given oxygen support in time. Delhi government will provide oxy-pulse meter to all the patients who are recovering under home isolation.

The patients can use them in their period of recovery and can return to the government after they have fully recovered. If you are in home isolation and recovering from Coronavirus, you may check your levels at home in every one-two hours, and if your oxygen level is low, you can call on a number provided by us. Every district will have a concentrator, and the team will carry the concentrator to you to regulate your oxygen levels. You will also be immediately shifted to the hospital if required.”

There were 5300 beds occupied in all the hospitals in Delhi, and now, 6200 beds have been occupied, which means that only 900 more beds have been occupied in the last 10 days, whereas the number of Coronavirus cases went up by 23000 new cases which possibly means that the number of new patients admitted in the hospitals for Coronavirus is the same as the number of people who are recovering in the hospitals and going back to their homes.

AAP also suggests that all political parties must stand united against China for attacking Indian soldiers on the border, and against Corona, without any politics on the issue. “The entire nation is fighting two battles against China. The first is the virus that spread through China, and the second is its battle against China on the borders. Our doctors and nurses are fighting the battle against the virus, and our soldiers are fighting the battle on the border against China. These two battles ought to be fought by us, there should be no politics on this and all political parties must come together to fight these two battles. Our soldiers did not turn back when they fought on the border, and we should also not turn back until we win this battle,” Kejriwal added.
