Deadline for e-filing of I-T returns extended again

New Delhi — The issue of extension of the last date for e-filing returns of income and audit reports under Section 44AB, which was due by 30 September, has dragged the department to litigations in various High Courts across the country. While some of these courts have ruled in favour of an extension of the due date, some others have ruled otherwise.

In view of this, the Ministry of Finance announced through a tweet today:

In order to avoid discrimination between taxpayers residing in different jurisdictions and to be fair to all, and also in view of paucity of time to approach the Hon’ble Supreme Court by way of Special Leave Petition (SLP), the government said it had decided that across the country, all the returns of income and audit reports under Section 44AB which were due for e-filing by 30 September, may now be filed by 31 October.

The order necessary under Section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, has been issued by CBDT in this regard.

Sirf News needs to recruit journalists in large numbers to increase the volume of its reports and articles to at least 100 a day, which will make us mainstream, which is necessary to challenge the anti-India discourse by established media houses. Besides there are monthly liabilities like the subscription fees of news agencies, the cost of a dedicated server, office maintenance, marketing expenses, etc. Donation is our only source of income.
