Darjeeling rocks again after yet another blast near Teesta Bazar

Darjeeling – Even as all out attempts are being made by both the West Bengal government as well as the Gorkhaland agitators to bring peace in the strife torn Darjeeling hills before the scheduled bipartite meeting on August 29, an yet another explosion near a road bridge at Kalimpong on Thursday night by unidentified miscreants, has put a question mark on the outcome of the proposed meeting and intention of the extremist elements to derail the peace process.
     According to informed sources here on Friday,the third explosion in about a week and only 24 hours after the powerful blast at Sukhiapokhari which damaged a number of vehicles and nearby shops,rocked a portion of Teesta Bazar when yet another home made improvised grenade exploded near a connecting bridge at around 1 a.m last night.
    Soon a strong contingent of armed police and para military forces rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area, but nobody could be arrested as the miscreants fled under the cover of darkness.
     Though there was no report of any human casualty, a portion of the bridge which connected Darjeeling town with Kalimpong, was damaged.
     It was a clear indication to cut off the road connections between  the two towns, the police said and collected  samples of the blast for further investigation.
       Meanwhile  yet another senior Gorkha Janmukti Morcha(GJM) leader Palden Bhutia was arrested by the police from his house on Thursday night on charge of  creating disturbances and resorting to violence in Darjeeling hills.
     He was being  interrogated by the police for several hours since his arrest to find out whether he had any connections with the Nepal based Maoist guerrillas, at least 50 members of whom were reportedly  arrived in Darjeeling hills to create trouble and derail the peace process during the democratic movement for a separate of Gorkhaland.
     Responding to repeated calls from Chief minister Mamata Banerjee,senior representatives from both the GJM  and Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) have now agreed to come to for a meaningful talks on the Gorkhaland issue and come to an amicable solution to the vexed problem for a separate state, on August 29
