Like several other former and playing cricketers from the country, former India batsman Yuvraj Singh has blasted Shahid Afridi for his controversial comments on India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A video emerged on social media where the former Pakistan allrounder could be seen addressing a crowd in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), and talking ill about the Indian prime minister.
Yuvi is the latest Indian cricketer to hit out against the former Pakistan allrounder after cricketers Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan and Harbhajan Singh lashed out at Afridi.
Yuvraj Singh said that he was “really disappointed” with the comments Shahid Afridi had made against Narendra Modi and stated that he had made the appeal for donation “for the sake of humanity”. “Never again,” said Yuvraj Singh, who had received great criticism from Indians after he had made the appeal for donations.
Gautam Gambhir also tweeted in response to Afridi’s comments, venting out his anger on the former all-rounder.
“Pakistan has 7 lakh force backed by 20 crore people says 16-year-old man @SAfridiOfficial. Yet begging for Kashmir for 70 years. Jokers like Afridi, Imran & Bajwa can spew venom against India & PM @narendramodi ji to fool Pak ppl but won’t get Kashmir till judgment day! Remember Bangladesh?” Gambhir tweeted.
Left-handed batsman Suresh Raina has joined the list of Indian cricketers who have criticised former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for his recent anti-India remarks.
“Gosh! What all a person must do to remain relevant! Even more so for a nation that is living on alms. So, better do something for your failed nation and leave Kashmir alone,” Raina said on his official Twitter handle taking an indirect jibe on Afridi.
“I am a proud Kashmiri and it is and will always remain an inalienable part of India. Jai Hind!” he added.
Harbhajan Singh quote-tweeted Yuvraj Singh’s tweet and said “never again no matter what”.
“If anyone speaks against my country or countrymen or my prime minister it is not acceptable, whoever it is,” Singh said. He even apologised to everyone who has been hurt by his action and promised that he will never speak for anyone who spreads hate against India. He said that he has realised his friendship was limited to cricket field but it is no longer there.
Afridi had in PoK claimed that the Indian government under Prime Minister Modi was carrying out atrocities against the Indians in Kashmir, part of which is illegally occupied by Pakistan. “Inshallah he’ll have to be answerable here as well as in the other world,” he had said.
“Is waqt jab saari duniya corona se lad rahi hai us waqt bhi tumko Kashmir ki padi hai. Kashmir humara tha humare hai aur humara hi rahega. Chaiyeh 22 crore le ao, humara ek, sava lakh ke barabar hai. Baaki ginti apne aap kar lena, (Even at this point when the whole world is fighting coronavirus, all you think of is Kashmir. Kashmir was ours, is ours and will be ours. You may bring 22 crore (of Pakistan’s population); each one of us is equal to 1.25 lakh (Guru Gobind Singh’s quote). You may carry out the calculation)” Dhawan tweeted.
