Cricketers in India condemn Afridi’s comments on PM Modi

Suresh Raina has joined the list of Indian cricketers who have criticised former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for his recent anti-India remarks


Like several other former and playing cricketers from the country, former India batsman Yuvraj Singh has blasted Shahid Afridi for his controversial comments on India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A emerged on social media where the former Pakistan allrounder could be seen addressing a crowd in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), and talking ill about the Indian prime minister.

Yuvi is the latest Indian cricketer to hit out against the former Pakistan allrounder after cricketers Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan and lashed out at Afridi.

Yuvraj Singh said that he was “really disappointed” with the comments Shahid Afridi had made against Narendra Modi and stated that he had made the appeal for donation “for the sake of humanity”. “Never again,” said Yuvraj Singh, who had received great criticism from Indians after he had made the appeal for donations.

Gautam Gambhir also tweeted in response to Afridi’s comments, venting out his anger on the former all-rounder.

“Pakistan has 7 lakh force backed by 20 crore people says 16-year-old man @SAfridiOfficial. Yet begging for Kashmir for 70 years. Jokers like Afridi, Imran & Bajwa can spew venom against India & PM @narendramodi ji to fool Pak ppl but won’t get Kashmir till judgment day! Remember Bangladesh?” Gambhir tweeted.

“Gosh! What all a person must do to remain relevant! Even more so for a nation that is living on alms. So, better do something for your failed nation and leave Kashmir alone,” Raina said on his official handle taking an indirect jibe on Afridi.

“I am a proud Kashmiri and it is and will always remain an inalienable part of India. Jai Hind!” he added.

“If anyone speaks against my country or countrymen or my prime minister it is not acceptable, whoever it is,” Singh said. He even apologised to everyone who has been hurt by his action and promised that he will never speak for anyone who spreads hate against India. He said that he has realised his friendship was limited to field but it is no longer there.

Afridi had in claimed that the Indian government under Prime Minister Modi was carrying out atrocities against the Indians in Kashmir, part of which is illegally occupied by Pakistan. “Inshallah he’ll have to be answerable here as well as in the other world,” he had said.
