CPM goons bomb and kill RSS leader

Killers apparently hired by the CPI(M) are on the prowl once again. Some of them barged into the house of Elanthottil Manoj, the RSS’s Kannur district Shareerik Shikshan Pramukh (head of physical training), and hacked him to death while a gang of goons hurled a bomb at a group of RSS swayamsevaks*.

The incident occurred in Kizhakke Kadirur near to Thalassery, the epicenter of political violence in the Kannur district of Kerala. It may be noted that the CPM has been eliminating its political rivals in Kannur district by using brutal methods; this is the latest in a series of incidents. On 27 August, BMS worker Suresh Kumar (42) had succumbed to his injuries inflicted by CPI(M) goons a week ago.

The BJP and RSS have called for a strike in the district tomorrow following the killing of Manoj.

The incident shows the impunity with which the goons of CPI(M) operate as it occurred right after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat left the State and BJP national president Amit Shah was about to arrive in Kerala. Bhagwat was in the State for the past 7 days addressing routine organisational matters in different parts of south Kerala. An FIR has been lodged at the Kadirur police station.

The CPI(M) seems to be on a killing spree to give the RSS and BJP a shock as now the communists are in a spot following reports of several cadres recently switching over to the BJP.

The deceased, Manoj (43), has been on the communists’ hitlist for several years as he had been one of the pillars of strength of the RSS in the troubled areas of Thalassery and Panoor. There is a police case against the CPI(M) killer squad that had butchered estranged party leader TP Chandrashekharan for attacking Manoj some years ago.

Thalassery has witnessed volatile political killings, with the CPI(M) being the biggest political party of the area, leading to violence and intimidation of political rivals by using force. The BJP and RSS have lost several of their mainstream leaders to the killers of the CPI(M). This includes BJP youth wing state vice President KT Jayakrishnan who was killed in a classroom while he was teaching students in an upper primary school. Former BJP Kannur district general secretary Panniyanoor Chandran was killed while he was riding a motorbike along with his wife; the killers did not betray any mercy in killing the BJP leader brutally in front of his wife.

* Revised after confirmation of the manner in which the murder was executed.
