The coronavirus pandemic of China is wreaking havoc in Iran where six people have died of the respiratory diseases caused by the biological agent in a few days. On Saturday, a person died of coronavirus in Arak City.
The situation in Iran is alarming as six deaths after the detection of 28 infected people is a very high rate of mortality post-infection. People suffering from this disease are receiving treatment in four cities of Iran. This includes the capital Tehran, Qom, Babol, Arak, Isfahan and Rasht.
The demand for masks and hand sanitisers has increased in the capital Tehran as soon as the news of death from coronavirus has come. There is a shortage of masks and hand sanitisers in many shops.
The borders of China and Iran are far away from each other. There is a distance of about 4,600 km between the two countries. Yet, the virus is spreading rapidly in Iran.
How coronavirus travelled from China to Iran
A Chinese company is setting up a solar plant in the city of Qom in Iran, 120 km south of the capital Tehran. A large number of Chinese engineers and labourers are working here. The employees working here have all come from China. It is suspected that this virus came into China through them.
Iran’s health department official Minou Mohrez, said, “The virus came through the workers working in the city of Qom, who were constantly travelling to and from China.” Eight of the 10 new coronavirus patients from Iran are from the city.
The city of Qom is the centre of faith for Shi’ah Muslims around the world. In addition to Iran, a large number of Muslims from Iraq and Pakistan visit the place. Due to the fear of disease, the number of pilgrims and tourists has dropped significantly.
Health officials had called for the suspension of all religious gatherings in Qom on 20 February.
