Kolkata: Ending days of speculation West Bengal Congress leader and MLA from Sabang constituency, Manas Ranjan Bhunia, formally joined the Trinamool Congress party. In a press conference held at the Trinamool Bhavan, Bhunia, along with Mukul Ray and Partha Chatterjee, lashed out at the state congress leadership referring to Adhir Chowdhury as a symbol of unruliness.
Bhunia’s long time Congress associates Kanak Devnath, Khaled Abdullah, Manoj Panda, and Ajay Ghosh also joined the TMC. Md. Sohrab along with senior leader and member of A.I.C.C, Asim Mazumder also followed Bhunia and formally joined TMC. Speaking to reporters Manas Bhunia severely criticized state congress president Adhir Chowdhury and dubbed TMC as the “real Congress.”
Speculation had been rife for sometime that Bhunia may leave Congress. There had been growing differences between the Sabang MLA and the state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury and leader of opposition in state assembly, Abdul Mannan. Bhunia’s brother who was president of the West Midnapore District Congress Committee, had earlier shifted to TMC.
