Reminding one of the character played by Govinda in the 1994 film Raja Babu, whose outfits had taken his female suitor essayed by Karisma Kapoor for a ride, a fake pilot was arrested today by CISF personnel when he tried to board a plane of Lufthansa at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. He has admitted to committing the crime 15 times, skipping the queue for passengers and avoiding security checks.
When 48-year-old Rajan Mahbubani was arrested in front of the airport gate on Monday, he was in a pilot’s uniform. He was about to board a plane to Kolkata. He was arrested and handed over to Delhi Police.
Earlier, the German airlines’ chief security officer had warned CISF that a suspicious passenger had been spotted by a captain on Lufthansa Airlines.
One of the officers of the force that guards Indian airports and industrial installations said, “The man is a resident of Vasant Kunj area of Delhi. He has a fake ID of a Lufthansa airlines captain. He used it to avail of various facilities at the airport. When interrogated, he said he used to shoot videos for YouTube aboard aeroplanes. From Bangkok, he had received a fake identity card for Lufthansa.
Mahbubani further informed the police that he did not impersonate only as a pilot but, like Raja Singh of the film directed by David Dhawan, he had a fetish for masquerading as various professionals in uniform. Several video clips of his showing him dressed as personnel in different professions have been recovered from his phone. In one of the clips, he is seen as an Army colonel.
In a pilot’s uniform, the impostor easily wandered around among the crew on planes. Owing to the privilege offered to pilots, he would enjoy other benefits like moving from the economy to a business-class seat. A case of fraud has been registered against Rajan Mahbubani.
