Chandigarh: The first unit of Chinook heavy-lift helicopter was inducted at a function held at the 12th Wing Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force (IAF) located in Chandigarh on Monday. IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa participated in the program.
According to information given by the IAF, air forces of many countries are using these helicopters. This helicopter is used to transport troops and essential military equipment.
Air Marshal Dhanoa said on this occasion that Chinook helicopter could carry out military operations both in the daytime and at night. Another unit of the chopper will be established in eastern India in Dinjan (Assam).
How Chinook helps
Chinook will prove to be a game-changer in military operations even as Rafale adds teeth to India’s air power. Air Marshal Dhanoa said, at present, there are many major challenges related to security in the country and such a helicopter with enhanced capacities is needed for operations in difficult places. He said that the Chinook India has received was modified as per India’s needs.
American aerospace company Boeing has supplied four Chinook military helicopters to the IAF at the Mundra port in Gujarat on 10 February.

IAF received its first CH-47F (I) Chinook heavy-lift helicopter on 10 Feb 19 at the Mundra port in Gujarat. On 25 Mar 19, it will be formally inducted into the Helicopter fleet of IAF at Chandigarh.
