New Delhi: In the INX Media case, Congress leader P Chidambaram, lodged in Tihar Jail, has filed a petition before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at the Rouse Avenue Court for hearing. The court has issued a notice to the ED in this case and the court will give a decision in this case on Friday.

After the arrest by CBI, Chidambaram will now have to remain in jail till 23 September. During the hearing on a petition filed by Chidambaram to avoid arrest by the ED, advocate Kapil Sibal said that all this was being done to insult and torture Chidambaram.

On the other hand, the Solicitor General, on behalf of the ED, said that all the six accused had been summoned in this case and the investigation into the case was going on. On behalf of the Solicitor General, it was said in the court that, till now, the ED had not sought custody in this case.

The ED, while presenting its arguments in the court, said that all the six accused who had been summoned in the INX Media case needed to be interrogated to complete the investigation. At present, the ED is completing its background investigation, after which an effective decision will be taken on Chidambaram’s custody and his interrogation. The ED can plead for the arrest of Chidambaram in the court at the right time.

Kapil Sibal argued on Thursday on behalf of Chidambaram that the Solicitor General had accepted that the ED wanted to arrest his client. Responding to this, the Solicitor General said that if the accused were to abscond, the agency would have no option left. It said that, in this case, the ED could file a charge sheet soon. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court has said that it will give its verdict in this regard at 2 PM on Friday.
